Clark Bottom Rendezvous
We shall encamp at an old established rendezvous spot on the Yellowstone
River just south of Laurel, Montana. Captain Clark of the Lewis & Clark
Expedition camped near here in 1806, on the way down river to rejoin Lewis
at the confluence of the Yellowstone with the Missouri on the way back
to St. Louis. This is also where Jim Bridger in 1836-1837, made his winter
camp on this old established gathering place. The location is shaded by
VERY OLD cottonwood TREES. Headwater camps have good drinking water, showers,
and parking for participants and visitors. Entertainment, presentations
and workshops will include black powder events, period music with fiddler
Halleck Brenden, artifact showing by Howard Thom, archeological commentaries
by Wilfred Husted, a paper presentation on the history of Clark bottom
by Dr. Don Woerner, a technical talk on the Northern Plains Horse Bows
and related archery equipment by Lone Badger and the Northwest Trade Gun
by Bill Newton. Laurel operates with a self regulating traders’ committee.
